Sightseeing

Ayn Sukhna (Hot Springs) located 55 km south of Suez. Most beautiful spot on the Red Sea and the nearest to Cairo (two and half hour by car). A summer/winter resort with sandy beaches, suitable for camping. Excellent spot for water sports, fishing and underwater photography.

Hurghada: 395 km south of Suez. Very pleasant climate all year round, with facilities for underwater fishing and snorkling. A major town with an airport to accommodate small to medium sized aircraft.

Magawish Village: 11 km south of Hurghada. 200 bungalos with a complete range of facilities.

Giftoun Village: 8 km from the town. 332 air conditioned rooms, several restauarants, discos, clinic, children's park, swimming park, tennis, squash, diving and wind surfing.

Princess Village: 10 km from Hurghada. 20 two-story villas, 40 bungalos, and other accommodations.

El-Samaka Village: 9 km south of Hurghada. Well-equipped for diving and wind surfing.

Yasmine Village: Directly on the seashore, 15 km from Hurghada. 360 double-room bungalos with bath, gymnasium, library and disco. It has a facility for wind surfing, diving and yachting.

Hur Palace Village: 10 km from the city to the north. 36 bungalos, a seafront restaurants and courts.

Shedwan Village: In the centre of Hurghada. Directly on the sea. 80 bungalos, a disco, swimming pool, restaurants and fishing docks.

Safaga: 65 km south of Hurghada. A small port and tourist area with bungalos and rest houses and a large hotel. It has phosphate mines.

Al-Qusayr: 80 km south of Safaga. The main port of exporting phosphate. Suitable for camping and watersports.

Mersa Alam: 135 km south Qusayr. Several rest houses and Egyptian Shooting Club. Rich with marine life. Suitable for fishing.

Berenice: Small city 178 km south of Qusayr. Best place for remedial tourism.

Islands.

There are 24 islands in the Red Sea, all of which are rich in fauna and flora. The most important are:

  • Emerald Island: opposite the coast of Berenice.
  • Greater and Lesser Giftoun: near the coast of Hurghada.
  • Abu minqar Island: opposite the Hurghada Sheraton Hotel.
  • Shedwan Island: in which stands a lighthouse 35 km from the coast of Hurghada.
